Premiile BAFTA 2018, echivalentul britanic al Oscarurilor, își desemnează câștigătorii în această seară. Printre favorite se află și producția 'Gods Own Country, unde unul dintre rolurile principale este interpretat de actorul român Alec Secăreanu.
Ediția de anul acesta a premiilor BAFTA 2018 are, printre nominalizări, pelicula 'The Shape of Water' regizată de Guillermo del Toro ( 12 categorii), fiind urmată de drama de război 'Darkest Hour' în regia lui Joe Wright şi de drama 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri', regizată de Martin McDonagh, fiecare cu 9 nominalizări.
Lungmetrajul ‘The Shape of Water’, despre un experiment secret din America anilor 60, este nominalizat inclusiv la cele mai importante categorii – Cel mai bun film, Cel mai bun regizor, Cel mai bun scenariu original, Cea mai bună actriţă în rol principal (Sally Hawkins) şi Cea mai bună actriţă în rol secundar (Octavia Spencer).
Printre participanţii la eveniment se numără actriţele Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyongo şi actorii Daniel Day-Lewis, Gary Oldman şi Orlando Bloom.
Cineastul Ridley Scott va fi recompensat cu cea mai prestigioasă recompensă – Fellowship – decernată de organizatorii galelor BAFTA.

Premiile BAFTA au forma unei măşti de teatru, fiind concepute şi realizate de sculptoriţa americană Mitzi Cunliffe în 1955.
